The older LGBTQ+ community is one of the most vulnerable and underserved groups in society.

Many face significantly higher risks of social isolation, loneliness, and poor health outcomes compared to their heterosexual peers. These challenges stem from a complex mix of factors, including a lifetime of discrimination, weaker social networks, and limited access to inclusive healthcare and support services.

In September 2022, Tonic Housing Association opened Tonic@Bankhouse — the UK’s first LGBTQ+ affirming retirement community in central London. This vibrant, inclusive urban space offers a supportive environment where residents can connect through shared experiences and live their later years with dignity, pride, and joy.
